Weed Mapping PDF Print E-mail

We began mapping our watershed for invasive plants in 2004 with the aid of Trimble GeoExplorer III GPS units.

Our GIS intern developed a data dictionary with 11 plants of interest for us to map.

  • Tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima)
  • Scotch broom (Cytisus scoparius)
  • Tamarisk (Tamarix juniperia)
  • Periwinkle (Vinca major & minor)
  • English and Algerian ivy (Hedera helix & canariensis)
  • Giant reed (Arundo donax)
  • Cape ivy (Delairea odorata)
  • Pampas & jabuta grass (Cortaderia selloana & jubata)
  • Acacia (Acacia melanoxylon)
  • Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus)

We now have multiple GIS layers for Stevens Creek which allow us to graphically display the location of these plants and hopefully develop a plan to remove them and restore these areas with native plants.

These data are available at a separate weeds website for now.  Click here to visit.

Wish List

We are always in need of items to further our work.  This is a list of the things we are currently wishing for:

  • The Council needs to find office space somewhere in our watershed and hopefully near Stevens Creek.
  • Wading boots, small sizes for women.
  • magnetic stirrer  and bars
