Nita Barve, one of our volunteers, is helping to measure the diameter of one of the largest Cape Ivy infestations along Stevens Creek. Cape is the third most prevelent of the weeds measured in this project.
 

 

Volunteers with the Steven's and Permanente Creeks Watershed Council are using GPS to map invasive plants along Steven's Creek from the Steven's Creek reservior to the San Francisco Bay. Of the many invasive species that adversely affect the creek's ecology, 10 species of particular concern have been designated for mapping:

 

Tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima)

Scotch broom (Cysitus scoparius)

Tamarisk (Tamarix juniperia)

Periwinkle (Vinca major & minor)

English and Algerian ivy (Hedera helix & canariensis)

Giant reed (Arundo donax)

Cape ivy (Delairea odorata)

Pampas & jabuta grass (Cortaderia selloana & jubata)

Acacia (Acacia melanoxylon)

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus)
