  • Meeting wildlife and community needs
With the scarcity of open space lands here in this heavily urbanized valley, the remaining lands along Stevens Creek are under more and more pressure for development. Multi-use trails, picnic areas, ball fields, community farms, BMX dirt jumps and dog parks are all being discussed as possible developments. At the...

Community Events - We conduct regular creek cleanups and are begining to do habitat restoration projects as well. Yearly evenst include Coastal Cleanup Day and National River cleanup day.

Come to a Meeting - The Stevens & Permanente Creeks Watershed Council meets every other month to discuss ongoing projects, future plans, and current events that affect the watershed.  On a City level, check out the local Planning Board, Land Trust, or Commission meetings. These organizations make many important decisions that impact land use, water quality, and other environmental issues.

Monitor Water Quality - We are currently conducting a Water Quality Monitoring program which will inform us about the water quality at four locations on Stevens Creek.

Work with bugs - We are conducting an Aquatic insect (Benthic Macroinvertabreate) survey and we are always looking for members of our Bug Club.

Become a Citizen Streamkeeper - We have a Citizen Streamkeeper program and are looking for volunteers to adopt a portion of Stevens or Permanente Creek after going through our training on how to be a Streamkeeper.

Map Invasive Plants - Would you like to learn how to use a GPS for mapping? Do you like to take long creek walks?

Start a Program at Your School - Watersheds are a valuable educational tool and can add a lot to science curricula in any grade. There are many on-line resources that can help in planning lessons, connecting with other schools and programs, and obtaining necessary materials.

I you are interested in any of these things read more on our site or contact our Programs Director here
