  • Meeting wildlife and community needs
With the scarcity of open space lands here in this heavily urbanized valley, the remaining lands along Stevens Creek are under more and more pressure for development. Multi-use trails, picnic areas, ball fields, community farms, BMX dirt jumps and dog parks are all being discussed as possible developments. At the...
  • Stocklmeir Property Task Force
Along with Blackberry Farm, the bit of Cupertino-owned land known as the Stocklmeir Orchard was studied as part of the Stevens Creek Corridor Project. This land is scheduled as Phase II of the overall project, with plans currently calling for re-alignment and restoration of the creek. Also planned is the...
  • SWAMP at McClellan Ranch?
(Cupertino, California) McClellan Ranch has not had a change of habitat. SWAMP is the Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program that Eric Burres of the California State Water Resources Board discussed with us on Wednesday April 8, 2009 at McClellan Ranch. I was not able to join the daytime field training,...
  • Partnership yields first results
Our partnership with De Anza college has lead to the discovery of highly toxic water in Stevens Creek. Our first test included a site below the outfall at Stevens Creek Blvd.  The current thinking is that the cause is a substance called pyrethroid which is found in insecticides employed for...
Stevens & Permanente Creeks Watershed Council
About Us PDF Print E-mail

The Stevens & Permanente Creeks Watershed Council was officially formed in August of 2003. Our mission reads:

The Glossary Link SPCWC mission is to engage the community in wise stewardship of our watershed, furthering the protection, restoration, and community appreciation of creeks and associated habitats.

This will be accomplished through collaboration and consensus in a manner that is sensitive to the needs of the entire community.

We are a collection of community residents, city representatives, agency officials, scientists, environmental advocates, and other interested stakeholders with a common vision for a better watershed. All community members and interested parties are invited and strongly encouraged to attend and participate! For some ideas on how to contribute your time and knowledge, try our section on Getting Involved.

We meet every other month to discuss ongoing projects, future goals, and current issues that face the watershed. Registered members may login and view our doucuments for more information.

Download or view a two page information flyer here.

Stevens Creek is an urban treasure amidst a busy metropolitan area. It still contains wooded riparian habitat which benefits a remnant run of Steelhead Trout. One of the goals of the council is to improve conditions in the creek and help to restore this run of fish. More importantly, the council hopes to provide an open forum for stakeholder discussion and problem resolution.

Stevens Creek and Permanente Creek are connected via a Glossary Link bypass channel and an underground pipe which allows floodwaters in Permanente Creek to flow down Stevens creek avoiding flooding in the lower Permanente Creek watershed. Since these two creeks are hydraulically connected we decide to address problems in both watersheds together.
